Contact plates are mainly used to test for microbiological contamination of surfaces (e.g. tables, equipment, walls) using the contact method, and of the air using the sedimentation method.
Application:
A selective medium for the preliminary detection of Shigella, Salmonella and coliform bacteria. The medium is selective for most Gram-positive bacteria, due to the presence of bile salts and crystal violet.
